The course “World Religions” presents the religious world outside of the Christian faith, although the term, World Religions cannot be said to have a clear meaning. Usually, what is meant is the religious traditions that have the largest number of worldwide adherents. Next to Christianity, with roughly 2.2 billion followers, this term would also include Islam, with approximately 1.6 billion adherents, Hinduism, with roughly 1.1 billion followers, and Buddhism with about 500 million adherents. Because of its significance, especially for the Christian world, Judaism will also be studied in this course.
