Every Christian is also a citizen of his or her society and nation. The New Testament contains the command to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to be subject to the civil authorities. At the same time, Christians are also subject to the command to obey God more than man and not to become one with the world. It is within this tension that Christian existence has to be worked out.
On the one hand, this course offers an overview of the political system of the United States. This includes significant events from the political history of the country as well as current issues on the political landscape. On the other hand, the course examines the unique position of Christians and also the Church, as it stands over against political and societal institutions.
