Hermeneutics involves the discipline and theories of understanding. Seen as a theological discipline, hermeneutics describes ways and/or theories of how to understand the Bible. Whereas exegesis always concentrates on the specific content of distinct Bible texts, hermeneutics asks questions related to the foundational presuppositions necessary for a right understanding of the holy Scriptures.
The unique character of the Bible necessitates a special biblical hermeneutic. The texts of the Holy Scriptures cannot correctly be handled using the same methods as every other text. The Bible’s unique reality requires unique ways of encountering it.
