Strategy/Organization Development
A church is an organization. As such, church leaders need to develop skill in the construction of structures and strategies. A leader must understand not only strategic challenges, but also the appropriate legal and administrative considerations, if he/she is to successfully execute church’s intended plan. This course will include the counsel of seasoned management practitioners from various fields, in order to assist the student in his/her preparations for the challenges that lie ahead.

Strategy/Organization Development: Development of a growing church
A church is an organization. As such, church leaders need to develop skill in the construction of structures and strategies. A leader must understand not only strategic challenges, but also the appropriate legal and administrative considerations, if he/she is to successfully execute church’s intended plan. This course will include the counsel of seasoned management practitioners from various fields, in order to assist the student in his/her preparations for the challenges that lie ahead.

Course Goals

  • The student applies organizational skills to successfully focus his/her efforts on the most important aspects of the organization’s work.
  • The student applies organizational tools to measure areas of risk in order to reduce them as much as possible for the organization.
  • The student leverages planning and process tools in order to minimize organizational friction.

  • Defining and sketching management processes.
  • Producing an organizational chart.
  • Finding and following critical paths.
  • Budget development and control.
  • Understanding a nonprofit organization; understanding the risks and challenges within a nonprofit.
  • Nonprofit charter and bylaws.

Strategy/Organization Development: Development of a growing church
  • Day 1: defining and recognizing processes, charting processes
  • Day 2: management processes of a start-up, including lean management and dealing with bottlenecks.
  • Day 3: the basics of nonprofit law
  • Day 4: budgets, fund-raising, taxes, and insurance
